Week 2: Google - Would you want to work there?
Watch the video below. If the video has trouble, it is located at http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/id/214624
This is an interview with Ken Auletta who wrote the book "Googled: The End of the World as We Know It". It reveals that Google is much more than a white screen with a search box. It is an industry leader, and can be a ruthless competitor. You will have an assignment with questions that you are to answer about the video and turn in. After watching the video, visit the Google Jobs for Students website –http://www.google.com/intl/en/jobs/students/index.html Click around and read, but be sure to check out the "Life at Google" and "Hiring Process" sections. In the Life at Google section, click and read “Meet Some Googlers” and “Benefits and Perks”. Then, make your weekly post on your Weebly blog and name it: "Would I want to work for Google?" Explain your answer in detail now that you have information from both the video and the Google website.

Week 1 Post - Due 1-5-12
What are your expectations for this class? What are you expecting to learn from it? What are you looking forward to or dreading about the class? List your previous computer classes and teachers. Do you have a computer at home? If so, tell me how many and what type of computer (old, new, laptop, ipad, etc.) and what type of internet access (dial-up, satellite, cable, dsl) If not, where do you go to use a computer away from school? When not in school, what do you use a computer for (music, make beats, edit pictures, facebook, etc.) and how often do you use it? Do you consider yourself an expert, intermediate, or novice with computers? The answer to these questions will help me to learn about you and what you already know about computers.
Remember, this is PUBLIC writing. Do not use texting abbreviations. Complete sentences and proper grammar are expected.

Welcome
This is going to be a great semester. I hope you have tons of fun being creative while learning. Learning to write for the public is an important skill that many need to learn and practice. Blogging is a fun and creative way to do this. A blog is a public on-line diary. Each week I'll list here the topic that you are to write about. Sometimes it will be about what we are doing in class, and some weeks I'll ask you to research and recommend sites for the rest of the class. I want you to consider this as a fun way to earn 25 points each week. Your post will be due by midnight each Friday, or the last day of school for that week.
